A Little Family Competition...

Dave and I invited my mom and dad, nana and papa, and my brother over for dinner Saturday night. Our dinners usually involve good food, lots of making fun of each other, lots of laughs and games. This was no exception.

I made lasagna, The Loj's Italian Wedding Soup which is SO stinkin' good, salad and bread. And for dessert, I tried something new! I LOVE creme brulee and there are so few places that serve it. I was flipping through my Pioneer Woman cookbook when lo and behold, there before my very eyes was a recipe for creme brulee. I decided it had to be done. I bought the ingredients, found myself a handy dandy butane lighter at Bed Bath and Beyond and set off for custard glory. Now I will say, it's a little bit tricky to make. Adding the HOT creme to cold eggs without cooking them isn't the most fun experiment I've ever tried, but it really wasn't that hard.

And it was a huge hit with Dave and Taylor. I found it funny that none of them so much as stepped foot in the kitchen while I was cooking all day, but they about broke their necks to be in there to fire the top of the dessert. Boys and fire...

After dinner it was game time! We always enjoy playing games, but I must interject that we are all SO competitive. And I will be the first to admit that I hate to lose. Well, I lost bad on Saturday night! I literally couldn't get rid of my dominoes to save my life! It didn't help that Dave should have gone out and bought lottery tickets because he had the luckiest night of his life. He is such a bragger!

Have you ever played chickenfoot?? We love it around our house! We play it most holidays. nothing like mistletoe and competition!
Look at mom's shifty eyes...I think she was trying to peek at Teeny's dominoes! PS...this is completely off topic, but while we were playing dominoes mom mentioned that painting my table black and "shabby chic-ing" (In case you couldn't tell I made up that spelling...) it might look good. I think that will be my next project...what do you think?

I was wondering if they'd liked the soup! Glad they did.

And Creme Brulee!!! You're a rockstar.

P.S. I giggled a little at what a GIANT Taylor looks like next to that dish and mini flame thrower. Hilarious.

Thoughts on taking Creme Brulee to a loaded guy party?

How fun! And you just reminded me that I have to try to make creme brulee one of these days! I've got the torch, but have never used it!

Dang that will be something that I'll have to put on the registry when the dinos roam the earth again and I get married.. that thing looks sick, but knowing me I'd kill myself or burn the house down. :/
